DOMESTIC, COMMERCIAL & INDUSTRIAL ROOFING SERVICES
Apex Roofing Contracts is an Edinburgh based roofing contractor specialising in everything from repairs and maintenance of existing roofs to end to end re-roofing projects from large-scale commercial contracts to multiple-owner shared repair packages, and independent residential roofing projects throughout Edinburgh, the central belt and northern England.
Our core services are slating, tiling, felting and sheeting & cladding, in various materials from coated steel, to zinc and aluminium. We undertake all aspects of traditional roofing using a wide variety of natural slate, concrete tiles, lead, and built-up felt roofing systems in a range of different finishes. We have 2 distinct divisions within our organisation, one which specialises in large scale works – both commercially and privately – focusing on significant roof refurbishment and roof renewal contracts, and one which focuses more on smaller works packages including standard repairs and maintenance. We operate from our central Edinburgh base as one of Scotland’s most accomplished leading roofing contractors.

James Baillie
(COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR)James boasts more than 40 years in the roofing industry having started his apprenticeship in the trade as a commercial surveyor – predominantly centred around sheeting & cladding – back in the early 1980’s, before going on to focus more specifically on traditional roofing thereafter. His career is going through a renaissance of sorts, as he once again finds himself at the commercial end of the industry as he heads up the commercial division of the company, spearheading our drive to securing new commercial roofing projects, as well as managing ongoing projects, and commercial planned maintenance service agreements. As one of the original cofounders of the APEX group of companies, James has naturally been an integral part of the business from it’s embryonic stages and throughout it’s continued growth, and he has tirelessly put his multitude of priceless skills to great use, making him an invaluable leader of the commercial team.

Scott Ramage
(CONTRACTS DIRECTOR)Scott started his career in surveying back in the early 1990’s, training in general building before becoming a qualified Building Surveyor. Scott’s previous roles centred around evaluating various roofing & building contractors’ work quality on site, on behalf of commercial clients and local authorities. Ironically, Scott previously surveyed, critiqued and ultimately signed off our own work on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council in his previous post at a local surveying company, so you could say there is an element of ‘poacher turned gamekeeper’ in his role here with the company. Scott has assisted greatly during his lengthy tenure at APEX with general contract management, project planning, detailed surveying, and work programming; Scott supports the company throughout all layers of the organisation in the domestic division and has his finger firmly on the pulse of our day to day activities. Scott’s diverse skill set in general building aspects, not just limited to roofing, makes him a well rounded asset to the company.

Andrew Sinnet
(SENIOR SURVEYOR)Andrew began his career in the roofing industry in the 1980’s when he embarked on his journey as a manager and ultimately a surveyor within his family business, a prominent and successful roofing company in the Midlothian region, before working his way up to the position of Managing Director within the business. Andrew dealt with all facets of the company, ranging from surveying to on-site management over a near 30 year period, before moving overseas with his family. Andrew returned to Edinburgh during the covid pandemic and got back to what he knows best, roofing & surveying, and is responsible for the majority of our domestic surveys, as well as compiling system specifications and offering general technical input. Andrew has also been busy, in recent times, training some of our newest (younger) employees on the rudiments of the industry, with a focus on surveying and size & thermal calculations.

Tony Benton
(CONTRACTS MANAGER)Tony is responsible for the day to day management of our various sites and squads, both on the domestic and commercial fronts, implementing his vast knowledge of Health & Safety regulations to our teams, preparing RAMS, construction phase plans, and taking our on-site personnel through the relevant ‘toolbox talks’ prior to commencing with the practical work. Having originally qualified as a roof slater in the 1990’s, Tony went on to manage a diverse range of roofing projects for a well known company in the Scottish Borders, before joining our team. Tony has extensive knowledge of most aspects of the industry, having worked his way up through the ranks the traditional way from apprentice to tradesman, and finally on to on-site management; he is also a qualified drone pilot and is responsible for taking the aerial photography and videography for our various surveys, quotes and on-site reports.

Ollie O’Neill
(TRAINEE SURVEYOR)Ollie is the newest addition to our team and the youngster of our management department. Ollie has had some limited experience within the building trade generally, and comes from a large family who have worked within the industry, and so he is eager to follow suit and apply himself with a view to learning as much as he can whilst assisting the rest of the management team in their day to day activities. Ollie has a wide and varied assisting role at present as we try to diversify his training, in order for him to become a complete team player. His main focus at present is on surveying, as he attends most domestic surveys with Andrew, where Andrew would take him through the fundamentals of – amongst other things – leak source detection, accurate roof measurement, appropriate material specifications and pricing. Ollie aims to eventually make his way up to fully fledged surveyor before moving in to contract management and beyond; we will be supporting his efforts via the appropriate training – both internally and via outsourced means – until he is fully qualified and beyond.
